The Market is Changing, Are you Prepared?

These are strange days in the computer industry. We’ve seen companies gobble up competitors or buy assets from another company to strengthen their lineup (like WD’s recent purchase of Hitachi's Hard Drive Division), and we started the year out with crazy pricing and availability issues for Hard Drives, thanks to last years epic flooding in Thailand. Computers are getting so cheap that the market for upgrades has almost dwindled away to nothing. Most “Mom & Pop” type shops have moved mainly to Service Based  Providers for their Small to Medium Sized Businesses and are increasingly moving away from retail, especially when there are websites that sell the same parts direct to the consumer, some without charging sales tax!

Our Market is changing, and Eastern Data can help you adapt to new technologies that are taking off while the traditional PC Market has been slowing down. Eastern Data is leading the way into new territories that leverage the pre-existing computer parts, techniques and installation methods that System Builders, VAR’s and Retail shops have been doing for decades. There are markets that previously have been unavailable due to cost constraints, unfamiliar hardware/software and/or general unavailability to our market.
There may be a host of reasons that have made you apprehensive towards trying out these new market segments, including:
1.)    Lack of knowledge or proper training.
2.)    Not knowing what you need to buy in order to do what you need to do.
3.)    Fear of extreme expense.
4.)    Fear of a steep learning curve.
5.)    Fear of quoting or buying the incorrect product(s) for what you want to achieve.

At Eastern Data, we are committed to educating our customers and at least once a quarter we host some type of training and webinars because we believe that an educated customer is an empowered customer. Our Sales Executives and Technicians are constantly learning the ins and outs of what is new and current in order to make sure that you get everything you need to do what you plan on doing. You don’t need to break the bank to get results – we can assist with keeping you within budget. We work with manufacturers to make sure that you are covered if you have any questions – and again we offer training on things that from an outside perspective look like they have a steep learning curve. We know what you want to do and will not give you the incorrect products that hinder your complete objective.

The Emerging technologies that Eastern Data can assist you with are outlined below.

New Market #1
PC Based Surveillance
Eastern Data has teamed up with market leader Geovision to provide computer based Surveillance options with the use of PC Based DVR Cards, All in one units, IP Based Cameras and analog cameras, all configurable with the included Geovision Software. With hardware ends called “Baluns” you can run both data and power to remote cameras using standard CAT 5 Cable. The Geovision software is configurable beyond almost every other surveillance product possible. You can set the software to track faces, record motion, detect when something has been removed from a room, count cars, etc. Eastern Data has been holding trainings for Geovision on a quarterly basis since welcoming Geovision to our lineup. If you have interest in adding PC Based Surveillance to your portfolio, please be sure to contact your Sales Executive and let them know that you are interested in Geovision and would like to attend the next online training that is offered. Space in our trainings goes fast so be sure to let your Sales Executive know as fast as possible.

New Market #2
Digital Signage
Ever seen the electronic billboards on the Interstate? Ever gone into a Doctors office, Restaurant or Retail Store and seen Television screens that have Local News and Weather along with videos and information about wherever you are? That is Digital Signage. Eastern Data has partnered with well known hardware manufacturers AOpen and Shuttle as well as software solutions from DynaSign and FlyPaper  in order to bring Digital Signage to you. The machines can be hooked into a display (Large Monitor, Television, etc) and you can easily customize what you want seen on the display, even going as far as creating the designs on one machine on the network that pushes the information to the signage machine. Eastern Data can custom build whitebox machines for signage that are made for normal usage to 8 to 10 hours per day as well as solutions that can work 24/7, for when signage in needed around the clock. Ask your Sales Executive for more information about digital signage and what it can do for you and your customers.

New Market #3
Network Attached Storage
Everyone needs more storage space – it’s a fact of life. As we advance further into the information age there is a push to have everything digitized, be it medical or legal records to home videos, cherished pictures and music libraries. There have been a lot of different ways to store these files, on your local machine, on removable media such as DVDRW’s, Tape Drives, and flash drives, even through Direct Access Storage such as external drives in enclosures. QNAP, Asia’s #1 manufacturer of Network Attached Storage units, has decided to come to the US after successfully being the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for many well known brands that already have a presence in the US. Like Geovision, these NAS units have a wealth of configuration options – from being able to increase your storage space on the fly, without powering down to being able to work seamlessly with many applications with little to no effort. You can even have a second unit offsite that automatically syncs with the existing QNAP unit onsite, as well as backing up to many different available cloud services.
Discuss with your Account Executive about what you are looking to do for storage needs and they will work with QNAP to find a configuration that satisfies you. You may be surprised in just what the QNAP can do to provide extra value to your customers.

Just a taste of what the QNAP NAS Units can do, right out of the box.

The Market is Changing. With the products and training that Eastern Data can provide you, you will be able to change with the market as well. For information on anything you have read about or any questions you may have, please contact your Eastern Data Sales Executive today.
